“Drumming Up
the Stories” brings world folk tales to life through
drumming, song, and audience participation. Audiences
learn how the drum was first used to communicate, how
music can enhance storytelling and how instruments can be
created from ordinary objects. With stories from places
like Ghana, India, Ireland and Tibet, students are
introduced to new cultures, languages, and lessons, all woven
together by world drumming, sound effects and folk songs. Audiences
are also encouraged to draw on the sounds and characters
from their own environment to create stories about their
own unique lives. “Drumming Up the Stories” is
a perfect program for elementary school assembly programs,
library performances, and day camps! In
the metro Atlanta area, Drumming Up the Stories is scheduled through Young Audiences, Woddruff Arts.
